187 years ago, a May 10, 1824, were gathered in the Headquarters Huamachuco independence forces, when the same Libertador Simón Bolívar and Prime Minister José Faustino Sánchez Carrión left signed Decree Foundation, before leaving for Junín and Ayacucho, where he sealed the independence of South America.

On November 23, 1831 the Supreme Government appointed as trustees of the University of Santo Tomas and Santa Rosa de Lima. The first environment where the university functioned within the school were founded by bishops El Salvador.
The first classes were offered Dogmatic and Moral Theology, Canons and Laws, Anatomy and Medicine, Philosophy and Mathematics. The first degrees awarded by the UNT were the Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Laws and Sacred Canons. This period was characterized as prevailed in academic studies and colonial dogmatic spirit.
